THE FUTURE WAS YOURS TO CREATE: LEGENDARY AMIGA ARTIST RETURNS TO INSPIRE A NEW GENERATION

Retro Games Limited and PLAION REPLAI unveil original artwork created on an Amiga 1200 by renowned digital artist Klas Benjaminsson, launching a creative partnership with PosterSpy ahead of THEA1200TM's release

Retro Games Ltd and PLAION REPLAI have unveiled an original piece of digital artwork, ‘Beyond the Screen’, by renowned Amiga artist Klas Benjaminsson, created entirely on an original Amiga 1200, as part of a celebration of the computer's extraordinary creative legacy.

Produced at a resolution of just 640 × 512 pixels using 32 colours, the artwork demonstrates the remarkable possibilities of a machine that helped inspire a generation of digital artists, musicians, animators and game developers in the early 1990s.  Drawing inspiration from the Amiga's celebrated digital art heritage, including the iconic nature-inspired work of Jim Sachs, Klas's creation brings together wildlife, lush vegetation and ocean life, bursting from the screen of an Amiga computer.

‘Beyond the Screen’ by Klas Benjaminsson piece captures a defining feeling of the Amiga era, that a computer in your bedroom could be a gateway to almost anything, and that the only real limit was your imagination.

Klas Benjaminsson said: “For me, the real magic of the Amiga was discovering just how much you could create with it. This artwork is a celebration of that sense of possibility, when your imagination really was the only limit. I started with pencil sketches on paper, before bringing everything to life using the creative tools of an original Amiga 1200. It's been a real pleasure to revisit a time when creativity felt so personal and unrestricted, before the internet began shaping so much of what we see and create.”

FROM ONE GENERATION OF ARTISTS TO THE NEXT
The unveiling marks the beginning of a partnership with PosterSpy, the creative community renowned for its distinctive poster artwork. PosterSpy will invite artists from its community to take inspiration from Klas's original creation, reimagining the spirit of Amiga creativity through their own contemporary styles, tools and techniques.
A small selection of artists will be chosen to develop original interpretations, with the finished works showcased as part of the THEA1200 launch campaign.

The collaboration celebrates not just the Amiga's past, but its continuing influence on creative expression today.

PLAY. CREATE. IMAGINE.
Arriving on 4th December 2026, THEA1200 brings back the spirit of one of the most beloved home computers of the 1990s. The collaboration with Klas and PosterSpy reflects the philosophy behind THEA1200 - the Amiga was never just about playing games. It was also about creating something that was entirely your own.
